[glow=red,2,300]hello all, i just got 2 turtles recently..one is a softshell named Ellis D. and the other is a RES named Bob Marley. they both seem to be very healthy right now..they are eating both their reptile pellets and some carrots an celery that i gave them, tomorrow im going to get some guppies for them to eat, i also plan to get a snail or 2 to keep up the aquarium a little...Ellis d. really loves to bask away..and when bob marley is basking he usually sits beside the basking area with his body in the water with only his head poking out of the water..is this normal?..thats all for now... i will be posting here though if i have any other questions since im new to this and all...oh ya..im not really diggin these litle lizard things crawling all around the screen..
any tips you can give me will be appreciated..

Yeah, it's normal for RES to bask that way, as long as they also get out of the water occassionally and get totally dry. This will help keep them fungus-free. Good luck!

hello and congrats on ur turtles. watch out when u buy snails, bob marley might try to eat them.res are known to eat anything moving in their habitat.about the basking thing i dont know if it is normal or not but if ur res continues to bask in that way watch its shell for disease or fungus. it might bask like that because they are new to u and dont bask when ur around. well thats my input, tony.

Hi and welcome to the forums,
Glad to hear of a softshell turtle basking. Softshell turtles are usually "lazy" when it comes to basking, since they are not much of "basker turtles", but it is great to know that both of your guys are doing great. Yea, thats a normal thing for turtles to do. In fact, when keeping turtles, its a good idea to keep some type of resting place that allows the turtle to rest up on top yet still be in the water. RES and most other aquatic turtles seem to enjoy that a lot.
PS: Yea, some people seem to be annoyed with them geckos around the screen. I still don't have the code to have running "turtles" on the screen, so I decided to add the geckos just to spice up the forums a bit. If ya move your mouse pointer over them though, they will scatter away.
