I just read on a website that RES mature when they are 5'' long. Is this true? I have also heard that females mature at 4 years and male mature at 2 years. Which is true?

Well, I can't really prove anything, but here is what I believe. I don't think that RES mature at a certain age. All turtles grow at different rates, am I right? It can depend on the species of turtle, the gender of the turtle, the enclosure its in, how much food it gets, etc.. So all of them grow at dif. rates. Some RES at 1 year of age, can be 2-3 inches in carapace. Then others (at the same age), can be at 5-6 inches in carapace (example of course, most get to 4 maybe even 5 inches max. with only a year of age). I figure, a 3 inch turtle cannot mate with a 6 inch turtle (or mate at all and reproduce). So I think that RES sexually mature upon reaching 5 inches in length. Doesn't matter the exact age or anything, but once reaching 5 inches, they are able to mate. Thats what I think, of course I can't prove it or anything, and I can always be wrong, but the age thing, nah, I wouldn't think so. BUT, a turtle of 2-4 years of age is already sexually mature though (at least I would think).

Ok here is my situation:
I have one male res and one female. They are both about a year and a half old, (they were born June 2000). They are both around 5 inches long. They also live in the same tank. So would it be bad for the girl if they do mate? I don't have another tank for her to be in.

Most turtles are mated at about 5" or over or if you want to be safe contact Turtle Town.

Yeah I want them to breed. They live in a 135 gallon tank.
I just needed to know if it was going to affect Hera's health in a bad way if she does mate with Mischeif.
So I should set up a spot for her to lay her eggs and an incubator soon right?

PS
I love the geckos.

Nah, it won't affect her health. ;D The habitat size is great too. The gestation period (time till she lays her eggs), won't be untill a little more time, but you can definitely start planning ahead for a nesting site, etc.. Your on the right track, so don't worry. Merry Christmas. Re: PS: Hehe, I love the geckos too.
