I was reading on reptile websites sayin that turtles need hiding spots. But i noticed on everyones pics that no one has them. Should I add one to mine? Maybe like an upside down flower pot or something like that?

when i first got my turtles, i bought this huge cave/mountain thing. i never saw them go into it. then i set up my video camera fora couple days to see if they went in it while i was not there. the closest thing they did was rest on it for a couple minutes. so i took it out b/c it took up a lot of space.
i dont think they need the hiding spots, unless u have a turtle thats bothering another turtle, but in that case u should just seperate them or one may be hurt or killed.

In my experience turtles need a spot where they feel they can be alone. This can be a rock or even a big plant they can walk/swim behind. I have made my basking spot from flat stones. Two standing on the bottom and one on the top of those in the shape of a....well, a "carport" I guess you could say. That way I don`t take away any swimming space in the tank and the turts can swim under it and use that area as their private spot.

You don't have to have a hiding spot. I did put some for my hatchling, they did use them. I just piled rocks and made caves. If you do this, make sure the cave is big enough, so they can't get stuck. You can put a flower pot on its side, so they can go in. I know they like to hide in plants too, they don't have to be real, they can be plastic. Yes, we can see them, but they think they are hiding and that is what counts. lol ;D If you have more than one turtle in a tank, it is a good idea to have something, so they can get away from each other when they want to. I hope this helps. ;D

Don't forget to put plenty of Anacharis (aka Elodea) into the tank as well. Turtles just love the stuff..
