Hi, I currently have a 50gallon tank that i am setting up no turtles are in it yet and i wanted to make sure everything was working. In my basking area i have a 150watt Zoomed basking bulb my thermometer in my basking area is reading 100-105degrees. Will this be too hot for a red ear slider or map turtle??

Yes, that temp would be too hot. You will need to put the light up higher, so that it will not be that hot. You want the basking area temp to be at 90.

You want the basking area to be no greater then 90 and no less then 80. Ideally the temp should be in the high 80s.

With prices on electricity going only up and up, getting a lower wattage bulb might be worth while too

150 watts is extremely hot- I only use a 65watt plant light with another bulb for UV. My turtles bask all the time, Including my recently hatched softshell turtles.

Of course, you won't always see your turtle basking. Especially if their tank is in a very busy area of your house. Turtles mostly bask when it is quite and nobody is around. It's just natural....
