Hi all! Has anyone had any experience with a turtle prolapsing (if that is the correct terminology)?? the other night i noticed something between my turts hind legs as he was hanging on his turtle ramp. i got closer to take a look and it was a large purplish object that looked really bizzar (sp?). as i got closer he pulled it back in and went about his swimming business. later on i was hiding out watching him and again it came out. this time it got bigger and he looked like he was pushing. i watched for a few minutes and moved closer and again he pulled it back in. i FREAKED! got on the web and searched. i had read about prolepses before but had not experienced them. one article i read said it was normal and no one is really sure why it happens but its OK and nothing to worry about unless the turt doesnt pull it back in. another article said it was a very serious concern and he should be taken to a vet. I have no herp vet near so i havent taken him. since that evening though, i havent seen anymore displays of this. he is active, eating, excited when i come by (as per usual) and he's basking. im thinking i have nothing to worry about, but i'm still a newbie only having had him for a year. if anyone has any insights they are greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Leto- If you read the previous post it's about the same thing. My turtles are doing that as well. I have no clue if it's a good thing or a bad one though. They are also about a year old. I'm still waiting on someone to reply to it.
Good luck trying to figure out what it is... if you do, let me know!

What your turtle is showing you is that he is a male. It is normal but if it doesn't go back in, that is when you have the problem.
