My male painted turtle just lost a chunk of skin of the back of his neck. For the past week or so the skin at his neck has been kind of brownish, I was getting concerned. This morning it looked even more brown, but also looked like it was starting to peel. I became less concerned because I figured it was just some dead skin about to flake off. Well it came off all right, I found a big chunk of skin in the water and the area is now pink and slightly bloody. I'm not sure if its painful, I'm going to watch his behavior, but I'm sure it doesn't feel good. I saw pictures of an infected plastron, and it appears similar (except that its skin). I am planning to start soaking him in Nolvosan tomorrow, I can get some at work. Any tips on treating a wound like this, and any ideas as to how this happened would be greatly appreciated by both me and Zippy.
