Rescue mission
This seems like a place where I could get some help. But first… Hi everyone, I’m Marcin and just this past weekend I accidentally inherited a turtle. Now I don’t really know where to star but I hope you guys/girls can get me started.
Friend of mine has gotten a turtle and wanted to “get rid of it” so I voluntarily took the poor thing home. But I don’t know where to start and people at local PETCO don’t seem to know exactly what they are talking about so any help is greatly appreciated.
Got the turtle in with a little 2gal. tank (I assumed that he/she would need something bigger and went out this Sunday and bought a 10gal tank (came in a set – lamp, heater, and filter), gravel, so fake plants, some green, and turtle food (RaptoMin and Can O’ Worms). I filled ½ tank with water set the temp to 74-76 degrees and everything seemed to be OK until this morning.
Water got really nasty and I think that especially for turtles water should always be clean. The turtle seems to enjoy the environment considering he was sitting in the box for over two weeks but I’m clueless as to what should I treat the water with.
Take a look at the pictures and if you have any suggestions please let me know.
I can only think of couple of things:
1. I bought a submergible filter (Aquarium Systems); maybe it’s not good enough
2. I bought white gravel which I superficially colored; maybe I should have rinsed it before putting in water
3. Is it the turtle?
I don’t know…<br>Help please?!?!
