I just installed a new Eheim Ecco 2235 for my tank... I was told the it was a really quiet filter.. I followed the direction to prime the filter and start it. Now, I hear a slight humming from the filter. When there are other noise (like tv) I don't hear it but when the room is really quiet, I hear the humming.. is that normal?? When I put my ear close to the filter, I hear it humming... I've never used a canister filter so I'm not sure if it's normal to hear the humming sound or not...
thanks..

I don't use the eheim filter, but I have 2 canister filters in my room and I dunnot hear them at all (except when you put your ear close to the filter ofcourse).
My guess is that there is probably some air at the pump. Normally the air goes out automaticly after a while, but normally I stur the filter a little bit to get it out.
Also a possibility, but not at all likely with new filters, is that the pump isn't centered. I got this with a pump that was making a lot of noice. After I took it back, it seemed that something (probably dirt of some sort) had gone into the rotation point and scratched the magnet of the pumps center.
(lol, damn my english sucks, I can't seem to find the right words... ;-) )

I called the supplier about the problem and they suggested I try few thing.. one of them was to take out the impeller and see if it was damaged.. I followed the directions to take out the impeller and the magnet was chipped.. thin but a fairly large piece of the magnet was chipped.. I called them back today and they told me to send in the warranty paper and they'll send me a new impeller... I hope that fixes it....

I was thinking of getting the Eheim 2235 filter & upgrading to a 50 gal. tank. Is this an external filter & can you tell me if you are happy with it when you get it fixed & running? Thanks.

The eheim ecco 2235 is a canister filter, so it is an external filter. It has an output of 600l/h (or approx. 150gal/h), so normally it will be sufficient.

I got a call from Eheim today about my filter problem... They told me that my tank is too small for the filter. If there's not enough water pressure, the filter will make the noise... so.. I'm going to return it get a smaller Eheim classic filter.. I just need to decide which one to get. Classic 2213 is rated for max 66 gallons and Classic 2215 is rated for max 92 gallons.. Ecco 2235 was rated for 88 gallons and that had problems.. I'll probably get the Classic 2213.
I'm planning on getting a bigger tank by end of the year. Hopefully ~50 gallons... I hope this filter will work after I upgrade.. I'm not planning filling up the tank so I should work.. right?

Hi, I'm curious if anyone knows. With turtles you need a larger filter for the same size tank than you would for fish. Does this mean that Eheim filters are not good for turtles?

Eheim filters are good for turtles because the water can not bypass any of the media. This allows optimum filtration with the water and media.
