Hi Folks, I'm very new here. I live in "Upstate New York" Just a short distance south of Lake Ontario. I just wanted to say HI to everyone. By the way: I had my first turtle over 40 years ago and I was in elementary school then. ( I noticed an age thing kinda going on.) Really seems like a nice group here and I'm looking forward to talking with you all sometime. Mel

What do you mean an age thing? There is just a few of us older that dirt. I see you are the same Mel who posted the repy to Neil's saga over on BOI. I was not one of his fans. It has to be the water up there that they drink. So what kind of turtles do you have? By the way, I absolutely hate roaches. Here in Fla we had palmetto bugs that carry you away.

[glow=blue,2,300]Hi Mel, Also preparing to super nova (j/k), actually I'm 43 going on 12. There are a few of us "mature" people on this board. The young people here are great and I have learned a lot since I came here.[/glow]

I must admit that turning 30 was a VERY traumatic experience for me. I've been told that 40 isn't as bad. So, for those of you that have been there...PLEASE stop referring to yourselves as "older than dirt!" Couldn't you just say "Wise" or "Aged, like good wine." I started counting down to 30 at 25. This year I start counting down to 40 - please give me good thoughts to hang on to. Cheers, Gail

Where do I start? Yup!! Hissingcockroach.com is mine. I only deal in the Hissers and they are more like beetles then roaches. They are extremely interesting to watch and learn from but most folks don't like them much.
Yup!! I was the one that just posted about Neil on the BOI. I've done business with him and that's all. I think that Neil gets what Neil sows. That's all I'm going to say about that.
At the present time I have all tortoises. 3.4 Russians, 1.1 Sulcatas and 2.2 Greeks. I also have 3 ferrets, 4 cats and 2 dogs. And I wonder why my allergies are kicking up all the time during the cold weather being inside with all this animal fur and dander.
As far as New York goes!!!! Believe me when I tell you that not everyone from NY is the same. I know that Neil used to use that excuse all the time but he was mostly around the down state NY City area and it probably was in the NY City water that originates from the Catskills. I think the people from around the Catskills have been putting some nasty stuff in the NY City water supply for years. Thus the explaination of the so called crazy New Yorkers. I was brought up on spring water from Upstate NY all my life and was able to keep my sanity all these years. Now the only thing threatening my brain function is the famous NY winters.
I by the way, will be 51 my next birthday and my wife says I act like I still am in my teens sometime. There you go. Mel

Remember Gail, that when women reach 39, we stay that age for at least 5 years. So you have 15 more years to go. I mainly have turtles. When I had just 5 turtles, I would tell myself that my next one would be a tortoise. 10 more turtles later and I still don't have one. Five were given to me. Otherwise I wouldn't have so many. Have you read Neil"s posts? He is nasty and derogatory but he makes it like a joke so people think he is kidding. Problem now is if he comes back, you can't believe or trust anything he says. He has made his bed and now he has to sleep in it. What animal eats the hissers besides turtles? We know that if it moves, they will eat it. Do they bite or do they fly? They are really kind of cool looking.

Hello, I am from Rochester, NY. You know home of Kodak, Xerox, Bausch and Lomb and the Garbage Plate. I've had turtles for 25 years and work in the veterinary field dealing with exotics. So I guess HI.

Hi all. ;D I was born in St. Louis, I think, and now live 40-45 miles west of St Louis, in Union, Missouri. It must be the most boring place in the world, but I get to live in the 'woods', which is, in reality, just 7 acres of scrappy old pine trees. I like it better than town, though, and there's nobody around but my family to think I'm crazy about turtles (which I am). I hate construction, too. Union used to have little swampy areas, patches of trees, and little creeks. Now we've got Motel 8s and Walmarts all over. Not to mention the 3 million gas stations. We've turned into an oversized pit stop, and there's no place for wild animals and turtles, except the highway. It is so sad.
